Does The Birth Center Accept Health Insurance?
We are not in network with any insurance plans. We encourage you to speak with your insurance provider to see if they will cover any portion of your care. After the birth, we can help guide you through the process of requesting reimbursement from your insurance company.

Yes! We accept payment from/through your Health Savings Account.

Midwifery
What Is A Midwife?
Midwives have traditionally cared for mothers and infants. They are trained professionals who support healthy pregnancies, safe births, and smooth postpartum recoveries. Their care is personalized to each woman’s physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs.
Texas recognizes two types of midwives: Licensed Midwives (LM) and Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM). Some LMs also hold the Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential.
Licensed Midwives manage normal pregnancy and childbirth, provide postpartum care, and offer newborn care through six weeks of age. They typically attend out of hospital births.
Certified Professional Midwives are independent practitioners who meet the certification standards of the North American Registry of Midwives and practice according to the Midwifery Model of Care.
What Are The Benefits of Using The Birth Center?
Birth Center Stone Oak supports each family’s choices and preferences for their birth experience. Our birth center offers a range of options, including eating and drinking during labor, a family-centered environment, the ability to labor in a spacious soaking tub with the option of water birth, flexibility in labor and birth positions, and a comfortable setting where your choices are respected.
Henci Goer, in Obstetrical Myths Versus Research Realities, notes that birth centers consistently show lower intervention rates, with outcomes equal to or better than those for similar women giving birth in hospitals.
Families also have access to extensive educational resources, including classes on childbirth, breastfeeding, and infant care.
Is Water Birth Safe?
Water has long been recognized for its ability to ease physical discomfort and create a sense of weightlessness. During labor and birth, the support of the water can help both mom and baby relax. Submerging the belly reduces the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the uterus, which can make birth gentler for both. As the baby’s head emerges, the glottis naturally closes to prevent water from entering, and once the baby’s face reaches the air, the first breath follows.

How Can My Midwife Help Me Handle The Pain Of Labor?
Natural labor is often far less dramatic than what is shown on TV. Without pitocin, many women find the intensity more manageable and are surprised by their own strength, especially in a supportive environment. Midwife‑led labors encourage staying nourished and hydrated, moving frequently, and using hydrotherapy like a shower or tub. Most importantly, women are given the space to labor and birth in the way that feels right for them.

Natural Birth
Who Is A Good Candidate For The Birth Center?
A good candidate is a low‑risk pregnant woman who wants a natural, out of hospital birth. Most women fall into the low‑risk category, which makes non‑traditional maternity care an option for many. Midwives specialize in normal pregnancy and are trained to recognize if anything moves outside those limits during your care.

I Already Started Prenatal Care With Another Practitioner; Can I Still Change To The Birth Center?
It’s very common to begin care with another provider and later find that the Birth Center is a better fit. Transferring your care, including records from your previous provider, helps ensure a smooth transition. If you have any questions, we’re happy to schedule a time to talk with you.
Can I Have A Vaginal Birth If I Had A Previous C-Section (VBAC)?
VBAC, or vaginal birth after a cesarean, can be an option for many women. It’s important to understand why the previous cesarean was performed and how the surgery was done. Learning more about your medical history can help you explore your choices. A helpful resource is www.ican-online.org, which offers information for women considering a VBAC.
What Happens In Case Of Emergencies?
Many people have fears about birth, often due to the common hospital interventions that can lead to additional procedures. In most cases, birth is safe and requires little intervention. When a situation does need attention, our skilled midwives are well prepared. Emergencies can occur in any setting, but our experience shows that fewer interventions, such as pitocin inductions and epidurals, often lead to fewer complications.
If a mother experiences heavy bleeding after birth, midwives are trained to use herbs, medications, and IV fluids to control it. For newborn breathing issues, midwives maintain neonatal resuscitation certification and are equipped with oxygen at every birth. If preterm labor or another situation requires a hospital transfer, the midwife coordinates a smooth transition to the hospital of your choice and stays with you for support. When any transfer is needed or requested, a midwife or birth attendant accompanies you to ensure continuity of care.
